New Proposed Law in Spain: Advantages of Digitalization in Digital Time Tracking and Reduction of Working Hours

Nova Lei Espanha

A proposed law is currently under debate in Spain that could significantly transform the country’s labor market. The proposal aims to make digital time tracking mandatory for all companies and reduce the standard working hours.

These changes promise to improve time management and the quality of life for workers while presenting new challenges and opportunities for companies.

How will it work?

The digital record should be accessible to all workers, who will be able to record their working hours easily and quickly through electronic devices such as computers, tablets, or mobile phones. This automation will not only simplify the daily time tracking process but also allow for more efficient time management.

Another key point of the proposed law is the reduction of the working hours to 37.5 hours per week. This measure, coupled with the need for a greater work-life balance, aims to increase productivity while improving the quality of life for workers.

Some countries that have already adopted reduced working hours have observed significant benefits, including higher employee satisfaction, lower turnover, and, in many cases, increased productivity.

WFM Enables Resource Optimisation

With the possible approval of the proposed law, digital time tracking will become mandatory for all Spanish companies. However, for many institutions that still use traditional methods of time tracking, this change may be challenging, which is why it is necessary to use technologies that facilitate this process, such as Workforce Management (WFM) tools.

The SISQUAL® WFM solution allows simplified and automated management of employees’ working hours. For now, the main feature that will help in this adaptation process is the simulation of the new scenarios that this change in legislation could impact on the existing operation.

Using a mobile app, it is possible to record entries and exits, and it also offers advanced features such as overtime control, shift management and detailed reports, making it possible to manage the process in a simplified way.

As well as complying with requirements and being prepared for changes in Spanish labour legislation, SISQUAL® WFM enables companies to offer more flexible work schedules and promote employee well-being through a single platform:

    • Manage schedules, swap shifts, request vacations, days off, and justify absences.
    • Submit requests: managers can approve overtime, vacation plans, days off, and control absenteeism.
    • Increase communication between managers and employees, and consequently, productivity.

An Opportunity to Improve Quality of Life

Since 2019, the Gran Casino Group, a leader in the gaming and entertainment sector in Spain, has been using SISQUAL® WFM to simplify attendance monitoring, manage vacation requests, and shift changes, thus optimising their daily operations. Gonzalo Lumbreras, head of Human Resources for the Group, speaks about how the tool facilitated the daily management of teams:

“Before adopting SISQUAL® WFM, managing work schedules was one of our biggest concerns. The platform’s ability to plan work shifts helped optimize resources, ensuring proper allocation within the group’s vast range of work schedules.”

The implementation of the tool also aimed to decentralize the management of working hours, previously the sole responsibility of the HR department, which also resulted in a “significant advancement for the organization, reducing the risk of communication failures and bringing operational and financial benefits.

The Spanish proposed law represents a major change for the labor market, but also an opportunity for companies to modernize their personnel management practices. With SISQUAL® WFM, not only will they comply with legislation, but they can also turn these challenges into competitive advantages, ensuring a more productive, satisfied, motivated, and efficient workforce.
