Cybersecurity: Technologies Must Be Updated 

Cybersecurity has become a matter of utmost importance today. In an increasingly digitalized world where information and data are valuable assets, their protection has become a priority. One of the essential practices in this field is ensuring that technologies are always up to date. 

Cybersecurity Context 

In many sectors, there are strict regulations and standards related to cybersecurity. These regulations require organizations to keep their systems and technologies updated to protect user data and privacy. Non-compliance with these regulations can have serious legal and financial consequences for companies, including substantial fines. 

On the other hand, one of the primary reasons to keep technologies updated in the field of cybersecurity is the constant evolution of cyber threats. Hackers are constantly seeking new ways to attack systems and steal data. To combat these ever-changing threats, companies and individuals must keep their systems and software up to date. 

For example, in Brazil, cybersecurity was in the spotlight in 2022 due to various cyberattacks involving government agencies such as the Federal Police (PF) and the Ministry of Health, which suffered a cyberattack that resulted in a data blackout on the Covid-19 pandemic situation. 

In this regard, if these updates are not applied, systems are exposed to attacks that could have been prevented. Hackers exploit these known vulnerabilities to carry out their attacks. 

Updating cybersecurity practices is essential for companies 

From the perspective of José Epifânio, head of Product Innovation at SISQUAL® WFM, events like these underscore the importance of continuously updating cybersecurity practices not only for public organizations but also for private companies. 

“There was a need for accelerated digital transition worldwide. However, with the digitization of processes, the number of threats has increased significantly across all sectors. Thus, implementing systems that can turn cybersecurity into a strategic asset is vital today,” he states. 

According to the expert, certain sectors face additional challenges regarding the implementation of cybersecurity systems, mainly due to the use of outdated technologies, processes that were not designed with security in mind from the conceptual phase (Security by Design), and the lack of readiness of those involved in the processes in terms of basic cybersecurity skills. 

“The combination of these factors, alongside the size of the institutions, the criticality and confidentiality of the systems and data they are responsible for, necessitates the implementation of different cybersecurity systems based on the assessed risk level,” he adds. 

WFM solutions ensure data integrity 

To illustrate, Epifânio mentions that, in the case of SISQUAL® WFM, the processed information largely comprises personal data protected by GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), subject to all the rules and precautions mentioned earlier. 

For example, data loss due to security breaches can be devastating for individuals and companies. Security updates help protect the integrity and confidentiality of data stored in systems and servers. This is particularly important in sectors dealing with sensitive information, such as finance, healthcare, or government. 

“In this regard, it is of utmost importance that resources capable of designing processes while ensuring data security and integrity are involved in the implementation of a WFM system,” he says. 

“Furthermore, it is necessary that the implemented tools are developed following secure development processes (SSDLC) and already have features that help users comply with the law and protect the data they are responsible for,” the expert adds. 

According to Epifânio, in addition to cybersecurity, it is important for companies to seek various certifications that ensure the robustness of their processes, thereby bringing good security practices to their customers in terms of implementing software applications. 

“Security certifications are a fundamental part for companies aiming to ensure a strong commitment to quality, satisfaction, and the privacy and data protection of their customers, as well as promoting better services, effectiveness, and efficiency in process management,” he concludes. 

SISQUAL WFM is certified under the ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2013, ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 standards, with a declaration of applicability for ISO 27018:2019. Additionally, since 2021, the company has been awarded the Silver-level cybersecurity seal, DNP TS 4577-1:2021.
