The process of optimizing human resources management is currently a critical and essential activity in the daily operations of companies. As a result, more and more companies are seeking to optimize their human resources management processes, aiming to minimize operational costs and increase efficiency by using sophisticated ICT-based tools. In this context, Workforce Management (WFM) solutions have emerged, comprising a set of software applications and services that help organizations manage workforce operations. SISQUAL has been recognized by the Gartner Group as one of the leading global suppliers of WFM systems in the cross-industry, retail, and healthcare sectors. Considering the needs of the WFM market and its clients, as well as the scientific and technological advances occurring in the field of Data Science research, this collaboration project between SISQUAL and IEETA (UA) aims to design and develop new technological mechanisms and advanced algorithms for forecasting customer flow and determining the sizing and scheduling of work teams. These will enable the automatic and more accurate planning and determination of human resource needs and schedules, thus launching new and significantly improved modules of the Sisqual Workforce Management solution to the market. The retail sector will be used as a use case/study for this project, which aims to be a first major step towards the development of new modules for other sectors (e.g., healthcare and manufacturing). This project will allow for scientific and technological advancements over existing and developing knowledge and technologies, providing the market with a solution/product with new functionalities and superior performance levels compared to its competitors.
